Before I even get to how great Life on Mars is, I must discuss how fantastic the music used in the TV show is. I had forgotten all about the David Bowie song Life on Mars? so it was so great to hear it again. What an amazing and fitting song. Now I can see why they picked the title to this show. The next two songs were Signs, the 1971 song by the 5 Man Electrical Band and Baba O'Riley by The Who. At that point, this show could do no wrong.
The premise and the way it is playing out really worked for me. I'm not even a lover of police shows, but this has so much more. Sam Tyler, a detective in 2008, gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973. He spends his time trying to get back to his girlfriend in 2008, while working at his old job with new coworkers in 1973.
One of the best parts of Life on Mars are the comparisons between time periods. 1973 really looks very realistic. It is very similar to the realistic way that the 1960s look in Mad Men. The actors really add to making this show so authentic also. Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli are perfect as 1970s cops and Jason O'Mara has the charisma needed to play the lead.
If you missed the first episode, I highly recommend to going to ABC.com and watching it online.

I've never seen it before, but you've convinced me that I need to! I think maybe my family is odd, my daughter and I bond over House and Burn Notice.
So, any love for the original british version? Watch that one and then talk about the music, though the US version is quite good, I must say.
I must admit that I never saw the British version but I have read that it was fantastic. I certainly hope that the US version continues to live up to that.
Loved the 1st episode - I'm hooked! The scene where he hears his girlfriend in the radio broke my heart. Can't wait for next week!
So...is the American version, of Life on Mars, just copying the story line of the British version?
Since I never saw the British version, I'm not sure. But I absolutely love this show. Whether it is a copy or not, they are doing a great job.
I so agree about the music.
This show has opened up a whole new (lost) music world to me.
"All the way from Memphis" by Mott the Hoople!!!
"Reflections of mye life" by Marmalade!!!
This is truly a show you have to watch, if only for the music.
