Described as a cross between Lost and NYPD Blue, Life on Mars has great potential to be the next hot show that everyone will be buzzing about. A large aspect of the Life on Mars deals with comparing 2008 with 1973. This has potential for great conversations for teenagers and their parents because it is comparing the time periods when each of them were teens.
The series starts out in 2008 with NYPD Detective Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) is hit by a car and suddenly sent back to 1973. The culture shock, as well as the differences in the way that police conduct business, is extreme. His new squad in 1973 consists of his boss played by Harvey Keitel, a detective played by Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), a member of the Police Women's Bureau played by Gretchen Mol and a Rookie Detective (Jonathan Murphy). The love that Sam leaves behind in 2008 is played by Lisa Bonet (The Cosby Show).
I knew very little about Life on Mars until I watched this Sneak Peak Video that ABC put together and now I am hooked. Watch it and you will see:
Life on Mars premieres on Thursday October 9th at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. I'm looking forward to try it. My only question is what is going to happen when Lost comes back in January. This is the same time slot and the same network. Which is going to be moved? It sounds like they would be great back-to-back, but I am sure that they aren't going to move Grey's Anatomy.

Thanks for the post! Looks like an awesome show! I wish 1973 house prices, gas prices and milk prices were still around! LOL. Something mt daughter rolls her eyes at. Looking forward to Harvey Keitel on a TV show.
I've seen both series of Life on Mars, and it really is an awsome show. It's satisfying too, because the second series actually answers what you want to know.
The original 2 series of the Brit "Life on Mars" were great.
The follow-up, "Ashes to Ashes", set in the 1980's, is soon to start its second series and has had more mixed reviews.
i think the ABC series will be great. saw the preview clips and am very interested. check them out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEWpWM7Iyhc&feature=related can't lose with Keitel and Imperioli
