Wallpaper Week of May 25, 2008 David Cook Amer...Image by apb1991 via FlickrDavid Archuleta released his first single, Crush, in August. American Idol fans have been waiting for David Cook to release his first single since his American Idol winning song, Time of my Life, back in May. Finally, one week ago, David Cook's single, Light On, was released on iTunes. His album will be out in November.

These two songs only confirm what I felt about each of the David's during the American Idol competition. David Cook sounds like a professional and his song will reach a large crowd. I think it is great. Both males and females and teens through their parents can all love his music. David Archuleta's, Crush, is very sweet and catchy, but I can see it mostly be bought by young girls.

Here are videos of both so that you can make your own decision:

I think your assessment is right on target! I still get chills when I hear David Cook.

Those teen girls have a lot of buying power. Both artists will have their own fan bases and be fine. I really liked David Cook too. His voice is so powerful. David Archuleta is a sweet kid and his song matches his "Oh shucks!" personality.

I think you may need to check your facts. Crush is the highed debuting song of 2008, and hit #1 on iTunes in less than 18 hours. Cook's song NEVER reached #1 on iTunes (not even CLOSE), and as of today it is #33 and Crush, after 8 weeks is at #15. Crush is #3 on VH1's countdown, after only 2 weeks. Light on has mixed reviews, and obviously people aren't buying it.

"Light On" just came out last week so hasn't had a chance to move up the charts yet. Also, I never said anything about each songs ability to sell. Young girls are a great market. Remember how big 'N sync was. I never doubted that Crush could be a hit.

hmm i like both but im leaning towards cook. why? he's well rounded and has staying power.

im not so sure about archuleta. he has talent for sure but his drawing power lies in his "age" and cuteness so would that last when he's a bit older?

I think Light On is a fantastic song. I'm not that into Crush, but I can see why teens are liking it...it's very similar to a lot of the current popular pop/r&b songs and Archie has a nice voice. Both guys are winners as far as I'm concerned. As for all of the comparisons with billboard numbers...well, I just don't think that a song's position on the chart is necessarily an indicator of the quality of the song or the talent of the artist. If you don't believe me, check out the song that is currently sitting at #1 on itunes.

Speaking of charts, Cooks single isn't being played on the radio and can't even be bought off itunes anymore. Cook was at #3 when I bought the single and now the song isn't available. This might shed light on why cooks single is decreasing and archies keeps rising, you can only buy one of the two. It would be interesting why cooks song isn't getting any publicity or play time.

The reason for this could be that Cook hasn't released a video yet for "Light On". Songs don't sell nowadays without videos. Once the video and his album come out, things could change drastically.

Just sit back and watch...time is the one that will tell which "David" sells more.
