Emmy award statute

Sunday night, September 21st, the 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will air on ABC at 8pm live ET. The Emmy Awards are considered by most the distant runner up to the Academy Awards for movies. However, there is something about the more personal feel to it that makes me enjoy it more. The shows and the people up for the awards come into our homes each week, and therefore I care more about them than I do about a movie that I saw once.

There are a great many close races this year. There are also some new categories and five MCs instead of one. With ratings for the emmys down recently, ABC is trying to make some changes. A new category that has been added is Best Reality Host. And the five hosts nominated will be the MCs of the Emmys. They are Ryan Seacrest of American Idol, Heidi Klum of Project Runway, Jeff Probst of Survivor, Tom Bergeron of Dancing with the Stars and Howie Mandel of Deal or no Deal. It should be interesting to see how these hosts do sharing the spotlight. I would love to see Jeff Probst win this award. Even though I don't watch Survivor anymore, he seems like a nice guy, and what other host has to put up with the conditions that he does.

Here are some thoughts in some of the other categories:

Supporting Actor Comedy
Predicted -Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother - Amazing in this role and its finally his turn
My pick - Same as above. I love everyone in category (this is the only one I can say that, but its Barney's turn)

Supporting Actor Drama
Predicted - Ted Danson, Damages
My Pick - Michael Emerson, Lost. I admit that I don't watch the shows in the other categories, but how anyone can be better than Michael Emerson as Ben I can't imagine.

Lead Actress Drama
Predicted - Glenn Close, Damages

Lead Actor Drama
Predicted - Jon Hamm, Mad Men with Hugh Laurie, House a close 2nd.
My Picks - Hugh Laurie, House with Michael C. Hall, Dexter a very close 2nd. Hugh Laurie is probably the best actor on TV right now and he has won the Golden Globe twice for the role but never an emmy. What does he have to do besides practically cripple himself with that cane and speak American English flawlessly.

Lead Actress Comedy
Predicted - Too close to tell, but the names I've heard the most are Tina Fey, Christina Applegate and Julia Louis'Dreyfuss
My Pick - Tina Fey

Lead Actor Comedy
Predicted - Alec Baldwin - This category is the closest one to a sure thing. If Tony Shaloub wins again I am boycotting the emmys for good.
My Pick - Alec Baldwin

Comedy Series
Predicted - 30 Rock
My Pick - 30 Rock, although I wouldn't be unhappy if The Office won.

Drama Series
Predicted - Mad Men
My Pick - Lost, because last season improved back to 1st season quality. 2nd choice, Dexter.

I guess I'm going to have to watch "30 Rock" again. It obviously must be better than I thought it was! I'll give it another shot! However, the humor on "Monk" is just my kind of humor and I think Tony Shalhoub is the best!! I'm hoping he gets #four!!
