Buffy the Vampire Slayer is best known as the cult televsion series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar that aired from 1997 - 2003. However it has also taken many other forms. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was originally a 1992 movie. Buffy has also been portrayed in comic books, video games, academic publications and soundtracks. Finally, after being in the works for 4 years, Buffy Animated has begun.

Actually, all that has been done is the completion of a 3 1/2 minute cartoon (click pilot) which could be considered the pilot to the animated series if one is ever made. Joss Whedon, Writer/Producer/Creator of Buffy is busy with multiple other projects including his new series Dollhouse, which is scheduled to premiere this winter. Many of the other people involved are also now busy with other projects. For more information on Buffy animated see the Buffy Animated website.

There is an online petition trying to get the animated series made whether as a series or a direct-to-DVD movie. If you would love to see more Buffy as an animated show, then sign on. I wouldn't be surprised to see this list grow quickly. Joss Whedon fans don't like to see their shows die. Firefly fans still have hope of it coming back.

As an aside, I just started watching the actual Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series on DVD recently. I am about half way through season 2 now and I love it. My son loves it and I absolutely loved Firefly so I decided to give it a try. I'll probably get through all 7 seasons within a few more months. Although once Angel leaves, I'll have to start watching that show.
