Did you know that many of the amazing stories that you read in the group emails that you get sent are not real. They are nothing more than "urban legends". If you don't want to be fooled again there is a website made just for this purpose. It is called Snopes.com. And pass this on to your teens if you don't want them being fooled either (although I think they are more savvy than we are to these things).

There are a few ways you can use this site. If you get an email that you want to check into, copy the title of it, or take the keywords and go to the home page of Snopes.com and paste them into the Search box and click go. If it has been identified as an urban legend it will come up. Another way you can use the site is by browsing. On the main page you can click on "Hottest 25 Legends" and you will be taken to a list of the hottest 25 legends currently circulating the Internet. Also on the main page you can click into a category and browse urban legends by category.

It is a good idea to go into the site info page, because it explains exactly what they consider an urban legend and even that it doesn't have to be entirely false. I hope I haven't made you too cynical by now. Enjoy.

I love snopes.com it is a very informational site. When I get those forwarded mass emails especially the ones that just sound wrong (bill gates and Microsoft giving away money) the first thing I do is go to snopes!

Good idea to pass the word along about all those bogus emails and where they can be checked out. It's amazing how quickly they get sent around by people believing everything they read.
